Individual private clients
As a taxpayer who is not in business on his own account or in a partnership, we classify you as a private client.
This section of the website gives you a broad outline of the UK tax system as it may apply to you. If you are in business there are separate notes to which you should refer, depending on whether you are a sole trader, in partnership or trading as a limited company but this section will have relevance to you if you are the director of a limited company, including one in which you own shares.
The notes we provide on this website are only for those who are domiciled, resident and ordinarily resident in the UK for tax purposes. Discussion or advice on whether these fundamental concepts, which directly affect how you are taxed in the UK, apply in any one person's circumstances are beyond the scope of these notes but please contact us if you need any advice or assistance in this regard. In particular, if you are about to enter or leave the UK for a long period, please contact us for detailed advice, especially if there is a tax planning issue you wish to discuss.
We can also advise non-domiciled individuals.
The main taxes or duties that may apply to you are: income tax, national insurance, capital gains tax and inheritance tax but the rules differ for each. We can assist in dealing with compliance issues, such as notifying HMRC of liability to tax and completing tax returns, and can provide planning advice to try to mitigate these taxes.
